This is how we develop our employees
Developing your talents
As a leading consultancy firm, our success and reputation can only be as good as our people’s capabilities. So, it is natural for us to create an environment that attracts and develops the best consultants in the world. In order to live up to this, we ensure that we have a training and development process in place that:
- allows advancement through PA at a rate appropriate to each individual’s capabilities as they develop
- provides strong and accurate feedback to individuals on how they are doing and what they need to do to develop themselves
- ensures a balance between placing the primary responsibility on the individual to develop and the personal and infrastructure support required to help it happen.
Training programmes
We recognise that an outstanding training programme, which continues throughout a career, is essential to providing growth. Our overall aim is to develop broad generic consulting skills supported with deep content skills. This breaks down into five skill areas:
- consulting
- assignment and commercial management
- communication
- people development
- analytical and thinking skills.
Over 100 training courses are available in these areas; all consultants complete at least five days of training each year from this suite. The courses are continually updated and refreshed by PA’s training and development team. All consultants also have a personalised online training path which displays their completed training and recommends options for further development.
Things you didn’t know about us
PA’s Giving Back and Volunteering scheme reflects the strong desire among many of our people to take part in activities or actions which contribute something to meet the needs of wider society.
Generally, the best way that PA can support social causes is through the time and skills of our employees. Staff members who are interested in committing time to a socially worthwhile cause are able to spend up to three days a year on an eligible project, providing that the commitment can be managed around client commitments/administrative duties. Interested staff can either nominate a cause that they would like to work for or apply to join a pro bono project that PA has established.
Our company culture and values
At all times, PA people are:
Client focused We do whatever it takes to serve our clients to the highest possible standards, with everyone at PA focusing on delivering success for our clients. We always put our clients first.
Selfless and team orientated We ensure that our people respect each other and work to make each other successful, rather than seek to be hailed as lone heroes. We know that to add great value to clients, we have to work together as teams and embrace a diversity of people, working styles and approaches. We show consideration for our colleagues, help out in times of crisis even when it is not ‘our’ problem, and work for ‘One PA’ around the world.
Ethical We act ethically, honourably and responsibly by following the four principles of PA’s code of conduct: decency, excellence, character protection and justice. With any action, we strive to do ‘the right thing’, rather than ‘the easy thing’, and when in doubt ask ourselves; “How will this look? Am I happy with how people would perceive my behaviour were they to hear about what I have done here?”
Commercially driven It is in our clients’ interests, as much as our own, for PA to be commercially successful and strong. We re-invest our profits into the business so that the value we add to clients can continue to grow. We are proud to ask our clients to pay fully for the value we add, so that the benefit on each assignment is both to the client and to PA. We operate with sound commercial practices and stick to our processes and standard procedures, even when it’s difficult or time-consuming to do so.
Seeking to excel For PA’s people, nothing but the best will do. PA is a leading, innovative organisation, which encourages all its people to be the best they can possibly be – to be dedicated, ambitious, entrepreneurial and innovative.
